Strengthening the NNP in the Sister Isles

On September 16, 2025, the New National Party officially named Deputy Political Leader Norland Cox as the constituency caretaker for Carriacou and Petite Martinique. The announcement underscores the NNP's commitment to ensuring that the sister isles remain a central priority in the party's plans for Grenada's future.

Cox, who has deep roots in Carriacou, brings both political experience and a personal understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities facing the people of the sister isles.

A Familiar Face With a Fresh Mandate

As Deputy Political Leader, Cox already holds a senior position within the NNP's leadership structure. His appointment as constituency caretaker formalises his role on the ground and signals the party's intent to compete vigorously in Carriacou and Petite Martinique at the next general election.

"The people of Carriacou and Petite Martinique deserve representation that understands their reality — not from a distance, but from within," Cox said. "I am committed to being present, to listening, and to fighting for the resources and attention our islands need."

The Sister Isles' Priorities

Cox outlined several areas that will guide his work as caretaker:

  • Hurricane recovery — ensuring that Carriacou's rebuilding after Hurricane Beryl is completed fully and fairly
  • Infrastructure investment — improving roads, the water supply, and public facilities
  • Economic development — supporting local businesses, fishers, and the tourism sector
  • Youth opportunities — creating pathways for young Carriacouans to build futures at home
  • Healthcare access — strengthening medical services so residents do not have to travel to Grenada for basic care

Pierre Welcomes the Appointment

Political Leader Emmalin Pierre praised the appointment, noting that Cox's leadership will energise the NNP's efforts in the constituency.

"Norland Cox is not just a party official — he is a son of Carriacou who understands what the people need," Pierre said. "With him leading our efforts in the sister isles, the NNP is sending a clear message: Carriacou and Petite Martinique will never be an afterthought."

A Party Present in Every Constituency

Cox's appointment is part of the NNP's broader strategy of naming caretakers in constituencies across the tri-island state, ensuring that the party maintains a continuous, visible presence in every community.
