Ready Whenever the Call Comes
At a well-attended political meeting in Morne Longue on May 28, 2025, Opposition Leader Emmalin Pierre delivered a clear and confident message: the New National Party is ready for the next general election, whenever it is called.
"We are not waiting for an election date to do the work," Pierre told the crowd. "We are ready now — ready with ideas, ready with people, and ready with a vision for a better Grenada."
Pierre noted that while the constitutional deadline for the next election extends to 2027, the NNP expects it to be called sooner and is preparing accordingly.
The NNP's Current Standing
The NNP currently holds four of the fifteen seats in the Lower House of Parliament and three seats in the Upper House (Senate). While in opposition, the party has used its parliamentary presence to:
- Question government spending and demand transparency
- Advocate for communities affected by Hurricane Beryl and the rising cost of living
- Propose policy alternatives on education, healthcare, and economic development
- Maintain a visible presence in constituencies across all three islands
An Aggressive Membership Drive
Pierre revealed that the party has launched an aggressive membership drive aimed at expanding the NNP's base, particularly among young Grenadians and first-time voters.
"We are not just asking people to join a party — we are inviting them to join a movement," Pierre said. "A movement for accountability, for opportunity, and for a government that truly serves the people."
The drive includes community registration events, digital outreach, and a revamped membership platform designed to make it easier for Grenadians at home and in the diaspora to engage with the party.
A Message of Confidence
The Morne Longue meeting was part of a series of political gatherings the NNP has been holding across the country, bringing the party's message directly to communities.
Pierre closed with a message of unity and resolve: "The NNP has been tested before, and we have always come back stronger. This time will be no different. Grenada's best days are ahead, and the NNP will lead the way."
